Home made Pine Cone Bird Feeders

I first saw a variant of this DIY on Pintrest a few days ago. I was taking Max for a walk in a provincial park this week and ended up taking a grocery bag full of pine cones home. I thought that the recipe for the birdseed “cookies” would work great “smushed” into the scales of the pine cones, and they did. Here is a step by step guide on how I did it.

What you will need:

2 Envelopes of Gelatine

2 Cups of Bird Seed

1/2 Cup Boiling water

Approximately 5 Pine Cones

Add the 2 packs of gelatine to the 1/2 cup of boiling water, mix until smooth.

Add the bird seed and mix well. Add more seed if mix is still too wet.

Allow to cool for a few minutes.

(Note: tie ribbon or string around pine cones at this point to hang afterwards, I forgot to do this.)

Wearing gloves, “smush” mixture into the scales of the pine cones fairly hard to make sure it gets all the way in.

Let sit out to dry over-night and hang up for the birds to enjoy!
